Visual Arts (美術與設計)

Visual Arts is designed to further develop students’ aesthetic and artistic potential, and their values and attitudes, thus empowering them to be better prepared for their own future and for contributing to that of Hong Kong.  As a place of diverse cultures, Hong Kong is influenced by a mix of local, Chinese and Western art. It has become increasingly important to rediscover links to the Chinese artistic heritage and connections to the art of Asia and other cultural contexts. Hong Kong has a high penetration of information and communication technologies. Art study, therefore, meets the specific artistic, creative and intellectual needs of the community. Students studying the subject will be in a good position to fill the demand for creative manpower.

 

The Visual Arts curriculum aims to able students to:

- Enrich their aesthetic and artistic experiences.
- Enhance their ability to appreciate and create various forms of visual art both aesthetically and critically.
- Develop perceptual skills, general competencies, diverse perspectives, and metacognitive abilities through independent and open-ended inquiry in art education.
- Foster cultural and cross-cultural understanding by exploring the arts of different cultures.
- Cultivate personal growth, positive values and attitudes, self-identity, and a commitment to the community, nation, and world.
- Build a foundation for further education and career opportunities in the arts and creative industries.

 

Curriculum (Junior Form)

- To choose suitable visual arts knowledge, skills, and processes for expressing ideas and emotions in understanding and creating visual art.
- To conceptualize a theme using a specific medium and critique the work from an aesthetic standpoint.
- To investigate and utilize skills and knowledge of both traditional and emerging technologies in visual communication.
- To apply knowledge and skills from visual arts and other artistic disciplines in various visual arts activities.
 
Curriculum (Senior Form) 
 
HKDSE: Public Examination (50%) and SBA (50%) 
Public Examination: Paper 1- Visual presentation of a theme
 
SBA: Submit 1 Portfolio (Each portfolio should consist of a Research Workbook and 4 Artworks / Critical Studies) 
 
Paper 1- Visual Presentation of a Theme 
 
Part A: Art Appreciation and Criticism Write a critical appreciation of the reproductions of artwork provided 
Part B: Visual Arts Creation Create a piece of artwork to present a theme in response to the relationship between the practical work and the appreciation of the artwork.
